The protector is made of good sturdy fabric and neoprene, but it has no padding. The only padding on it is on the back where the Velcro sticks together (the neoprene part). Besides that, it is a piece of cloth that wraps around your neck. It's not worth the discomfort wearing one of these for the false sense of protection.
