The Platinum Series Tippmann 98 Custom, with 8 updated features to put you ahead of the game. Tippmann’s new 98 Custom Platinum Series with E-Trigger is now easier to upgrade, modify and maintain. With the E-Trigger built in, the five firing modes (semi-auto, auto-response, safety full auto, 3-shot bursts & turbo) give you rapid variable firing up to 17 balls per second. There is also a new Quick Thread Flatline Barrel, which attaches as easily as any other barrel to save players significant time and effort. The new Platinum Series maintains the core features of the original 98 Custom including, ACT (Anti Chop Technology), all aluminum die cast receiver, quick-release feeder elbow and a 200-round hopper. It’s fully compatible for CO2, compressed air, or nitrogen.

  • ACT (Anti Chop Technology) is a patent pending design to help eliminate ball chopping and ensure consistent performance. Using a new technology that has the front and rear bolt working independently of each other, ACT virtually eliminates ball chopping and improves ball accuracy with less barrel cleaning. And unlike other anti chop systems, this system maintains ball velocity shot after shot and does not have to be re-cocked if the anti chop technology had to be engaged.
  • The E Grip now exclusively with WAS electronics features 5 firing modes including semi automatic, turbo, 3 shot burst, auto reponse and full safety auto (eliminates accidental bursts of fire). For 2006, Tippmann has added the new WAS board which fires up to 30 balls per second, is more durable and extends battery life with an automatic shut off after 30 minutes of non play.

Great Woodsball Gun, ok Speedball gun February 11, 2009

Had this thing for woodsball initially, it rocks! very durable, made to slug through the dirt and grime of a woodsball field.  Suggested upgrades are the BT Apex Barrel and Cyclone Feed.   It can even handle its own in speedball scenarios with the Apex Barrel. Only downsides to this gun is the weight, noise, and complexity cleaning it. otherwise performance is great! should last for years.

You could run this gun over with a steam roller and it would probably still function.  The tippmann 98 is a gun you can't bust.  I can't find a problem with the 98, maintenance is a breeze with this gun and it will be your mr reliable.  I don't recommend the 98 to tournament speedball players but for the weekend warrior the 98 will do wonders for your game.  There is a reason that fields all over the world choose tippmann for their rental gun fleet.
