While this isn't absolutely necessary, it makes life a lot easier if there is a jam in your Halo. Just twist the knob backwards to unjam it, then turn the Halo back on. It's a real easy install if you know the basic layout of the Halo. There are a lot of replacement knobs available for more customizing. And if you can't find one you like, you can always try to make your own and stick it on the drive.
